Malden

Part of the Greater Windsor metropolitan area, Malden is a neighbourhood within Windsor, Ontario.

Transportation

Malden is an extraordinarily good part of Windsor for driving. It is very convenient to come across a parking spot, and it is a very short drive to the closest highway, such as E C Row Expressway, from any location in Malden. On the other hand, this neighbourhood is not very transit friendly. Thankfully, property owners are served by a few bus lines, and most homes are very close to a bus stop. It is difficult for pedestrians to get around in this area as few common errands can be run on foot. In contrast, Malden is appropriate for cycling because there are a limited number of hills for cyclists to brave, and the cycling infrastructure is quite extensive.

Services

Property owners in Malden generally need a vehicle to reach the nearest supermarket. Residents of this area can enjoy a few restaurants. As far as education is concerned, it is a rather short walk to reach schools and daycares from anywhere in Malden.

Character

One of the highlights of Malden is its wide variety of green spaces. There are approximately 20 parks close by for residents to check out, such as Tall Grass Heritage and Ojibway Prarie Provincial Nature Reserve, and they are very well-spread out, which makes it very easy to access them. It remains relatively calm in this part of the city, as there are very few pedestrians.

Housing

The substantial proportion of single detached homes in the housing stock of Malden is an important part of its character. This part of the city is primarily composed of two bedroom and three bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy around 85% of the dwellings in Malden while the rest are rented. About one third of homes in this part of Windsor were built following the year 2000, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1960s.
