North York

The former municipality of North York can be found in the city of Toronto, Ontario, which is located in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.

Transportation

North York permits homeowners to move around using several means of transportation. North York is reasonably transit friendly. In particular, residents are served by various rapid transit stations on the Line 1 (Yonge-University), Line 4 (Sheppard) and Viva Blue. Commuters benefit from the Oriole, Downsview Park and Old Cummer on the Richmond Hill and Barrie. The former municipality is connected by over 100 bus lines, and the closest bus stop is usually very close. North York will also draw physically active people since it is reasonably conducive to walking; most daily needs are easy to carry out by walking, and a fair number of businesses of different types can be found as well. North York is amenable to cycling.

Services

Families will value the proximity to schools and daycares, which are within walking distance from most, if not all, properties for sale in North York. Residents can choose between public and private schools at both the primary and secondary school level. As far as eating is concerned, the nearest grocery store in North York is generally only a short walk away. In addition, those who like to dine in restaurants will have a good number of opportunities, and home buyers can enjoy over 150 cafes as well.

Character

The character of North York is exemplified by its relaxed environment. This part of the city features a fair amount of greenery as numerous tree-lined streets are prominent. Public green spaces, such as Newtonbrook Park and Don Valley Golf Course, are very well-distributed and there are over 700 of them nearby for residents to enjoy, which makes them very easy to reach. This area is quiet overall, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour - although there are still several louder areas, especially around one of the railway lines, Highway 401, Allen Expressway or one of the 2 airports (Toronto (Sunnybrook Medical Centre) Heliport,Downsview Airport).

Housing

About half of dwellings are large apartment buildings, making it easy to find apartments in North York, while the remainder are mainly small apartment buildings and single detached homes. This former municipality is primarily composed of three bedroom and two bedroom homes. The proportions of homeowners and renters are about even. Roughly one third of homes in this part of Toronto were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 2000s.
