Hornby

The neighbourhood of Hornby can be found in the town of Halton Hills, Ontario, which is located in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.

Transportation

This part of the town is especially car friendly. The city block layout is well suited for cars, and nearby highways, such as Highway 401, are very easy to drive to from anywhere in this neighbourhood. On the other hand, Hornby is not very transit friendly. Thankfully, there are a few bus lines passing through the neighbourhood, and most houses are very close to a bus stop. Walking in Hornby is not very popular, despite the fact that many daily errands can be run without the use of a vehicle. Even though there are a limited number of slopes, and a few bicycling-friendly areas exist, moving around by bicycle is nearly impossible in Hornby because there are few bike lanes.

Services

Buying one's groceries usually requires the use of a vehicle in Hornby. Nevertheless, reaching the closest pharmacy and consequently some staple foods is usually very easy. A limited selection of restaurants and cafes is available as well. As far as education is concerned, there are only a few primary schools in this neighbourhood and therefore they can be a long walk away. Furthermore, Hornby does not have any high schools. Moreover, there are only a very small number of daycares and thus they can be a very long walk away.

Character

There is a good selection of green spaces in Hornby. Parks are easy to reach since there are a few of them close by for residents to visit. This part of Halton Hills is an excellent area for those who don't mind some noise, as traffic during rush hour can occasionally be loud.

Housing

Around one third of homes in Hornby were built between 1960 and 1980, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s. Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing the overwhelming majority of dwellings in this part of Halton Hills. Roughly 80% of the properties in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners while the rest are rented. This neighbourhood offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes.
