Hornby

The neighbourhood of Hornby is part of the town of Halton Hills, Ontario, which is situated in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.

Transportation

Driving is a great medium of transportation in this part of the town. It is very convenient to park, and the city block layout is quite amenable to driving. On the other hand, the public transit system in Hornby is rather poor. Nonetheless, the neighbourhood is connected by a few bus lines, and bus stops are not very far away from most residences. Travelling by foot is not very common in Hornby, even though carrying out daily needs is easy on foot. Despite the fact that bicycling is better in certain areas than others, and the terrain is reasonably flat, commuting by bicycle is almost impossible in Hornby because the cycling network is not very extensive.

Services

There are only a few primary schools in this part of Halton Hills and consequently they can be an extended walk away. Additionally, Hornby does not contain any high schools. Furthermore, it can be very difficult to get to daycares on foot. With respect to eating, property owners in Hornby almost always have to turn to a vehicle to reach the nearest grocery store. Nonetheless, pharmacies are typically straightforward to get to on foot and provide some staple foods. A limited variety of restaurants and coffee shops can be found as well.

Character

There is a wide variety of green spaces in Hornby. Parks are very well-situated and there are a few of them nearby for residents to relax in, which results in them being easy to access from numerous locations in the neighbourhood. This part of the town is an excellent area for those who don't mind a little noise, since traffic during busier hours of the day can occasionally be loud.

Housing

Single detached homes are the most common housing type, representing the overwhelming majority of dwellings in Hornby. Roughly one third of properties in this area were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while many of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This part of Halton Hills offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Around 80% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and 20% are renters.
