Part of the Greater Oshawa metropolitan area, Orono is a neighbourhood within Clarington, Ontario.

Transportation

The best way to get around in this part of Clarington is usually driving. Many properties for sale are a very short car ride from the nearest highway, such as Highway 35 & 115, and parking is easy. In contrast, the public transit service in Orono is not very frequent. Nevertheless, the neighbourhood is connected by a few bus lines, and most houses are very close to a bus stop. Many of the homes for sale in this part of the municipality are located in areas that are not very suitable for walking as carrying out day-to-day needs is impractical. Orono is also not particularly appropriate for cycling since there are a good number of hills, and there are very few bike lanes.

Services

In all but a very small number of cases, a vehicle is needed in Orono to reach the nearest supermarket. Nevertheless, pharmacies are typically straightforward to access on foot and provide some staple foods. A small number of restaurants are available in this neighbourhood as well. With respect to education, families will value that wherever their house is situated in this part of the municipality, primary schools are nearby. On the other hand, Orono does not have any high schools.

Character

Orono is a fairly good neighbourhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a calm ambience. Orono is quiet overall, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour - although that is not the case around Highway 35 & 115.

Housing

Roughly 85% of the units in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and renters occupy the remainder. The predominant housing types in this area are single detached homes and townhouses. This neighbourhood experienced its biggest construction boom pre-1960, so most of the available properties are from this time period. This neighbourhood also has a good selection of unit sizes - it is quite easy to find homes ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms.
