Penhorn

Part of the Greater Halifax metropolitan area, Penhorn is a neighbourhood within Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

This neighbourhood is an extraordinarily good part of Halifax for driving. It is straightforward to come across a place to park, and the majority of properties for sale are a short drive from the nearest highway. However, the public transit service in Penhorn is not very frequent. Thankfully, there are a few bus lines passing through the neighbourhood, and the nearest bus stop is generally very close. This part of Halifax is not especially conducive to those who travel by foot because many daily needs are at times challenging to carry out by walking. The bike is a sometimes poor mode of transportation in Penhorn as there is a considerable amount of slopes, and the cycling infrastructure is rather limited.

Services

The closest grocery store in Penhorn is usually only a short walk away. Moreover, there is often a restaurant or cafe just around the corner. When it comes to education, primary schools and daycares are very convenient to access on foot from most houses for sale in this neighbourhood. On the other hand, Penhorn does not have any high schools.

Character

Penhorn offers a slower-paced ambience and will appeal to home buyers who enjoy spending time outdoors. Green spaces are especially well-distributed and there are a few of them nearby for residents to relax in, making them easy to access. Most areas in this part of Halifax are very quiet, as the streets are usually very peaceful.

Housing

In Penhorn, roughly 40% of dwellings are single detached homes, while small apartment buildings and townhouses make up most of the remaining housing stock. This neighbourhood also has a good choice of unit sizes; it is quite easy to find homes ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. The proportions of homeowners and renters are about even. This neighbourhood experienced its largest construction boom in the 1960s and 1970s, so most of the available homes are from this time period.
