Big Lake

Part of the Greater Halifax metropolitan area, Big Lake is a community within Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

The preferred approach to move around in Big Lake is usually a car. Parking is generally easy. The bike is a rather limited means of transportation in Big Lake since the topography is not especially flat, and the bicycling infrastructure is not very extensive. A majority of the houses for sale in this part of the municipality are located in places that are also not very suitable for those who travel by foot because almost no day-to-day errands can be run without having to use a vehicle.

Services

This part of Halifax does not contain any high schools or primary schools. As far as food is concerned, in all but a very small number of cases, a car is required in this area to access the nearest supermarket.

Character

People who prefer a slower-paced atmosphere will enjoy Big Lake. The noise levels in Big Lake are very low, as the streets are very calm. Public green spaces aren't well-spread out, making them very difficult to get to.

Housing

Roughly 90% of the dwellings in the community are occupied by homeowners whereas the rest are rented. The substantial proportion of single detached homes in the housing stock of this area is an important part of its character. Around 30% of properties in this community were built prior to the 1960s, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s.
