Georgestown

Located within the Greater St. John's metropolitan area, Georgestown is a neighbourhood within St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Transportation

Georgestown will attract active home buyers as it is suitable for walking; many daily errands can be run on foot, and plenty of businesses are reasonably close by. On the other hand, biking is sometimes challenging in this part of the city because there is a significant amount of slopes, and the cycling network is somewhat poor. Georgestown is reasonably car friendly. Many properties for sale are a very short car ride from the nearest highway, and it is easy to park. On the other hand, the public transit system in Georgestown is not very convenient. Thankfully, residents benefit from a few bus lines, and bus stops are not very far-removed from most houses.

Services

It is very easy to get to the nearest supermarket by walking in this area. There are also a limited number of opportunities for those who value nearby restaurants. As far as education is concerned, in Georgestown, families will almost always be able to reach both primary and secondary schools by walking. In contrast, parents and their children may consider it challenging to access daycares as a pedestrian.

Character

The character of Georgestown is exemplified by its relaxed environment. Georgestown is wonderful for those who like quiet areas, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour. Even though this part of St. John's is not known for its lively ambience, its main streets can still be quite energetic.

Housing

Small apartment buildings are the main housing type, representing about 30% of dwellings in Georgestown, and the remaining dwellings are mainly single detached homes and townhouses. This area experienced its most significant construction boom prior to the 1960s, so most of the available properties are from this era. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of three bedroom and two bedroom homes. Around two thirds of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and renters make up the remainder.
