Located within the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area, Whonnock is a neighbourhood within Maple Ridge, British Columbia.

Transportation

Cars are a great transportation option in this part of Maple Ridge. It is very convenient to find a parking spot. This part of Maple Ridge is not very suitable for walking as running daily errands is very challenging. The bike is a sometimes poor method of transportation in Whonnock since the bicycling network is not very extensive, and there is a considerable amount of elevation changes.

Services

There are only a very small number of primary schools in this part of Maple Ridge and consequently they can be a very long walk away. In addition, Whonnock does not have any high schools. Regarding eating, home buyers in this area almost always have to use a vehicle to do groceries.

Character

Whonnock is an excellent neighbourhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a relaxed ambience. This area is wonderful for those who like a quiet atmosphere, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour. Finally, it is easy to reach green spaces in the neighbourhood, since there are a few of them close by for residents to relax in, such as Whonnock Lake and Bell Irving Hatchery.

Housing

The predominance of single detached homes in the housing stock of Whonnock is an important part of its character. Around 30% of properties in this neighbourhood were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This part of Maple Ridge offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Roughly 85% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home whereas the remainder are renters.
