Transportation

Driving is usually the best method to move around in this neighbourhood. Parking is quite easy. However, public transit riders may experience very limited choices in this part of Montréal as a result of the infrequent service. Travelling on foot is not very feasible for house buyers in Barwick Island as common amenities such as laundromats or post offices can be an occasionally long walk away. Despite the fact that most of the terrain is rather flat, bicycling is also occasionally difficult in this part of the city because the cycling infrastructure is not very comprehensive.

Services

Both primary and secondary schools are convenient to get to on foot from any location in Barwick Island. On the other hand, daycares are not plentiful and accordingly not always within walking distance. Concerning food, in all but a very small number of cases, a car is needed to buy groceries.

Character

The character of Barwick Island is exemplified by its slower-paced ambience. There is a lot of greenery in this area as a large number of tree-lined streets are present. Although the neighbourhood is not home to any parks, public green spaces are especially well-spread out in nearby neighbourhoods, which makes it easy to reach them. This area is also very quiet, as the streets are usually especially calm.

Housing

In Barwick Island, about 85% of dwellings are large apartment buildings, while single detached homes are also present in the housing stock. Around 30% of properties in this neighbourhood were built between 1990 and 2000, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s. This part of Montréal also has quite a good choice of housing size options - there is a higher proportion of two bedroom homes in this part of the city. Around 60% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home while the remainder are renters.
