Located in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area, Scarborough is a former municipality within Toronto, Ontario.

Transportation

This part of the city will attract homeowners that appreciate several means of transportation. Residents can depend on public transit to travel in Scarborough. Commuters profit from many rapid transit stations with access to the Line 2 (Bloor - Danforth). Homeowners are served by the Eglinton, Milliken and Kennedy with access to the Stouffville and Lakeshore East. The former municipality is linked by over 50 bus lines, and bus stops are ordinarily nearby. This part of the city will also attract active people because it is conducive to walking; many daily errands can be run on foot, and a good number of businesses of different types can be found as well. Travelling by bicycle is convenient in this area.

Services

The closest supermarket in this part of Toronto is generally only a short walk away. Moreover, a restaurant is commonly just around the corner, for example along Kingston Road, and a limited number of cafes can be found as well. With regards to education, families will appreciate the proximity to schools and daycares, which are within walking distance from most, if not all, houses for sale in this part of the city. Along with public schools, there are private elementary and high schools.

Character

Scarborough is a very good former municipality to buy a home in for those who prefer a calm atmosphere. This area is very quiet, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic. Lastly, greenery is quite present in this area as many tree-lined streets are present. Access to public green spaces, including Cedarbrook Park and Rosetta McClain Gardens, is very easy from the majority of locations within the former municipality since there are over 800 of them close by for residents to unwind in.

Housing

Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing around one third of dwellings in Scarborough, and the rest of the homes are mainly large apartment buildings. This area also has a good variety of housing sizes; it is quite easy to find homes ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. Around two thirds of the population of this former municipality own their home while the remainder are renters. Roughly one third of properties in this part of the city were built between 1960 and 1980, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s.
