East End

Situated within the Greater Thunder Bay metropolitan area, East End is a neighbourhood in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Transportation

Driving is often the preferred way to move around in this part of the city. It is very convenient to access a parking spot. In contrast, public transit riders may experience few choices in this part of the city due to the low service level. Thankfully, house owners benefit from a few bus lines, and the closest bus stop is typically just around the corner. East End is not very conducive to those who travel by foot as most daily needs are at times difficult to meet by walking. However, a good number of residents in the area use their bike since cyclists do not face serious hills.

Services

As far as education is concerned, families will welcome that wherever their property is located in East End, daycares and primary schools are close by. On the other hand, this neighbourhood does not contain any high schools.

Character

People who prefer a relaxed atmosphere will enjoy East End. East End is quiet overall, as noise from streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue - although that is not the case close to the railway line.

Housing

The predominance of single detached homes in the housing stock of East End is an important part of its character. This neighbourhood has a good variety of unit sizes, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. Roughly two thirds of the population of this neighbourhood own their home while the rest are renters. Most of the housing growth in this neighbourhood happened prior to the 1960s.
