Galetta

The neighbourhood of Galetta is part of the city of Ottawa, Ontario, which is located in the Ottawa - Gatineau metropolitan area.

Transportation

Cars are an excellent transportation option in this area. Most real estate listings are a rather short car ride from the closest highway, such as Highway 417, and finding a place to park is easy. Galetta is not very bicycling-friendly since the topography is not particularly flat, and the cycling infrastructure is quite poor. A majority of the houses for sale in this part of Ottawa are located in places that are also not very conducive to those who travel by foot as many daily needs are very challenging to meet without the use of a vehicle.

Services

There are no high schools and no primary schools in this neighbourhood. In terms of food, shopping for one's groceries very often demands the use of a vehicle in this part of Ottawa.

Character

People who prefer a calm environment will enjoy Galetta. Most areas in Galetta are quiet, as the streets are reasonably tranquil - however noise can be problematic close to the railway line or Highway 417. Parks are spread out sporadically, which makes it very difficult to access them. Still, there are a few public green spaces nearby for residents to check out, including Galetta Community Centre.

Housing

The sizeable proportion of single detached homes in the housing stock of Galetta is an important part of its character. Around 30% of properties in this area were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This area offers mainly four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Nearly 90% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and 10% are renters.
