Ancaster is a former municipality within Hamilton, Ontario, which is located in the Greater Hamilton metropolitan area.

Transportation

The car is very often the best method to get around in Ancaster. Parking is easy, and many houses for sale are a reasonably short drive from the closest highway, such as Highway 403. On the other hand, the public transit service in Ancaster is not very frequent. Nonetheless, house owners have access to a few bus lines, and bus stops are not very far from most properties. This part of the city is not very convenient for walking as very few common errands can be run without needing to resort to a vehicle. In contrast, it is convenient to get around by bicycle in Ancaster.

Services

Families will welcome that no matter where their home is situated in Ancaster, primary schools are nearby. On the other hand, it can be very difficult to access high schools as a pedestrian. Besides public schools, there are private primary and high schools. Concerning eating, in most, if not all, cases, a vehicle is required to purchase groceries in one of approximately 10 stores. A limited number of restaurants and coffee shops are available as well.

Character

The character of Ancaster is exemplified by its slower-paced ambience. This area is very quiet, as the streets are generally very calm around Highway 403, Lincoln M Alexander Parkway or the railway line. Lastly, there are approximately 40 green spaces nearby for residents to visit, like James Smith Park and Robert E. Wade Ancaster Community Park, which results in them being easy to reach from the majority of locations in the former municipality.

Housing

The homes in this area are very new, because roughly 40% of its dwellings were built after the year 2000, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1960s. In this part of Hamilton, around three quarters of dwellings are single detached homes, and the rest are mainly large apartment buildings. Homeowners occupy around 90% of the properties in the former municipality and 10% are rented. This part of the city is primarily composed of three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes.
