Situated within the Greater Hamilton metropolitan area, Ancaster is a former municipality in Hamilton, Ontario.

Transportation

The car is very often the favoured transportation option in Ancaster. It is very convenient to park, and most homes for sale are a rather short drive from the closest highway, such as Highway 403. In contrast, this part of the city is not very transit friendly. Nevertheless, homeowners benefit from a few bus lines, and it is especially convenient to reach a nearby bus stop from most residences. Ancaster is reasonably suited for bicycling. A majority of the houses for sale in this former municipality are located in places that are not very conducive to those who travel by foot because very few common errands can be run without the use of a car.

Services

Primary schools are very easy to access on foot from anywhere in this former municipality. On the other hand, it can be very hard to walk to high schools from homes for sale in this part of the city. In addition to public schools, there are private primary and secondary schools. Concerning food, it is very rarely possible for home buyers in Ancaster to purchase groceries in one of approximately 10 stores on foot. A small selection of restaurants and coffee shops can be found as well.

Character

The character of Ancaster is exemplified by its relaxed ambience. Most locations within the former municipality have reasonably good access to parks, including Meadowlands Community Park and Open Space, since there are about 40 of them nearby for residents to unwind in and getting to the closest park is very easy from many properties. Most areas in this part of Hamilton are very quiet, as the streets are generally very tranquil close to Lincoln M Alexander Parkway, Highway 403 or the railway line.

Housing

In Ancaster, most dwellings are single detached homes, while the rest are mainly large apartment buildings. This former municipality offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy around 90% of the dwellings in Ancaster while the remainder are rented. The buildings in this former municipality are very modern, since about 40% of its buildings were constructed following the year 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1960s.
