City Centre

The neighbourhood of City Centre is part of the city of Pickering, Ontario, which is situated in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.

Transportation

City Centre allows homeowners to get around using various methods of transportation. City Centre is a fairly convenient part of Pickering for travelling by public transit. More specifically, commuters can count on the Pickering on the Lakeshore East. Homeowners benefit from around 10 bus lines, and the nearest bus stop is generally just around the corner. Walking is also practical for property owners in this part of Pickering; many common errands can be run on foot, and a variety of businesses are quite nearby. Although cycling is better in some sectors than others, City Centre is not especially suited for cycling because the bicycling network is somewhat poor, and there are a fair number of hills for cyclists to brave.

Services

A grocery store is generally accessible within a short walk from most properties for sale in City Centre. Additionally, this part of Pickering is a good place in which to go out to eat or go to a cafe. A decent selection of clothing stores can also be found within a rather short walking distance. With regards to education, primary schools and daycares are straightforward to reach on foot from anywhere in this neighbourhood. On the other hand, there are no high schools in City Centre.

Character

City Centre is a fairly good neighbourhood to buy a home in for those who prefer a calm ambience. City Centre is quiet, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic - although that is not the case closer to one of the railway lines or Highway 401. Although the ambience is not the liveliest in this part of Pickering, its main streets are still quite lively. Public green spaces aren't well-situated, which makes them very hard to get to.

Housing

Around two thirds of dwellings are large apartment buildings, making it easy to find apartments in City Centre, and the rest are mainly small apartment buildings. This part of the city is primarily composed of three bedroom and two bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy about 70% of the units in City Centre and 30% are rented. The homes in this neighbourhood are quite new, because about 30% of its dwellings were built in the 1990s, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s.
