Sober Island is a community within Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is situated in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

Driving is an excellent transportation option in this area. Accessing a place to park is quite easy. Moving around by bicycle is challenging in Sober Island as the topography is not very flat, and the cycling network is not very comprehensive. Many of the homes for sale in this part of the municipality are located in areas that are also not very conducive to walking as meeting daily needs is practically impossible by walking.

Services

There are no high schools and no primary schools in this community. With respect to food, in all but a very small number of cases, a vehicle is required to buy groceries.

Character

Sober Island offers a relaxed atmosphere. Sober Island is very quiet overall, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour. Public green spaces aren't well-spread out, which results in them being very difficult to get to from most locations within this part of the municipality.

Housing

Roughly 90% of the population of this community own their home and renters make up the remainder. The predominant housing types in this part of the municipality are single detached homes and row houses. Around one third of properties in this part of Halifax were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This community is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes.
