Hatchet Lake

The community of Hatchet Lake can be found in the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is located in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

The favoured way to get around in Hatchet Lake is usually driving. It is very easy to find a place to park. A majority of the houses for sale in this community are located in areas that are not very conducive to walking because running common errands is very difficult on foot. It is also at times challenging to get around by bicycle in Hatchet Lake as there are a good number of slopes, and the cycling network is quite bad.

Services

Both primary and secondary schools are convenient to reach on foot from most properties for sale in Hatchet Lake. However, there are only a few daycares and thus they can be an extended walk away. As far as food is concerned, a car is almost always needed in Hatchet Lake to access the nearest supermarket. Nonetheless, pharmacies are generally easy to reach on foot and sell some basic food items. A limited variety of restaurants is available in this part of Halifax as well.

Character

Hatchet Lake is a very good community to buy a house in for those who prefer a calm environment. Most areas in this part of Halifax are very quiet, as noise from the streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue. Lastly, there are around 10 green spaces nearby for residents to visit, such as Brookside Junior High School Park, which results in them being very easy to access from the majority of locations within Hatchet Lake.

Housing

Roughly one quarter of homes in Hatchet Lake were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s. The substantial proportion of single detached homes in the housing stock of this community is an important part of its character. Roughly 90% of the units in the community are occupied by homeowners and 10% are rented. This community is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes.
