The neighbourhood of Forest Hills is part of the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is located in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

Forest Hills is very car friendly. Parking is easy. However, the public transit system in Forest Hills is not very accessible. Thankfully, house owners are served by a few bus lines, and the closest bus stop is typically very close. Many of the homes for sale in this neighbourhood are located in places that are not particularly conducive to walking because running daily errands is occasionally challenging. However, this part of Halifax is quite suited for cycling because there are a fair number of bike lanes.

Services

The nearest grocery store in Forest Hills is usually only a reasonably short walk away. Likewise, home buyers won't have to go far to take advantage of the nearest coffee shop, and a limited selection of restaurants is available in this neighbourhood as well. In terms of education, in Forest Hills, parents and their children will generally be able to reach schools and daycares on foot.

Character

People who prefer a calm atmosphere will enjoy Forest Hills. This area is very quiet overall, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour. Finally, green spaces, like Settle Lake Park and Cole Harbour Commons, are very well-situated and there are around 10 of them nearby for residents to explore, making them very easy to get to.

Housing

Single detached homes are the most common housing type, representing around half of dwellings in Forest Hills, while small apartment buildings and townhouses are also present in the housing stock. This neighbourhood offers mainly four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Roughly 70% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and 30% are renters. Most of the housing growth in this part of the municipality occurred in the 1960s and 1970s.
