Part of the Cape Breton metropolitan area, Port Caledonia is a community within Cape Breton Municipality, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

This community is especially car friendly. Coming across a place to park is easy. Walking is not very convenient for home buyers in Port Caledonia because running day-to-day errands is practically impossible on foot. The bike is a rather limited means of transportation in this area as there are a good number of slopes to challenge cyclists, and the cycling network is not very extensive.

Services

There are no high schools and no primary schools in this part of Cape Breton Municipality. In terms of eating, in all but a very small number of cases, a car is required to purchase groceries.

Character

The character of Port Caledonia is exemplified by its calm environment. Numerous locations within the community have fairly good access to public green spaces, such as Big Glace Bay Beach, since there are a few of them nearby for residents to visit. This area is also excellent for those who prefer a quiet atmosphere, as the streets are usually especially peaceful.

Housing

The sizeable percentage of single detached homes in the housing stock of Port Caledonia is an important part of its character. This part of the municipality is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy about 85% of the dwellings in Port Caledonia and renters occupy the remainder. About 40% of homes in this community were constructed pre-1960, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s.
