Big Pond Centre

Part of the Cape Breton metropolitan area, Big Pond Centre is a community within Cape Breton Municipality, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

The car is usually the favoured method to move around in this community. Parking is generally easy. Bicycling is difficult in Big Pond Centre because there are very few bike lanes, and cyclists encounter a considerable amount of slopes. Nevertheless, cycling is more feasible in certain areas than others. A majority of the homes for sale in this community are located in places that are also not very convenient for walking as carrying out day-to-day needs is inconvenient on foot.

Services

There are no high schools and no primary schools in this community. Likewise, parents and their children may consider it very difficult to access daycares on foot. In terms of eating, in vast majority cases, a car is required to do groceries.

Character

Home buyers who prefer a slower-paced atmosphere will enjoy Big Pond Centre. This part of the municipality is very quiet overall, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic. Lastly, although Big Pond Centre is not home to any parks, green spaces are situated sporadically in nearby communities, which makes them easy to get to from numerous locations in the community.

Housing

Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing the vast majority of buildings in Big Pond Centre, and the remainder are mainly duplexes. About 20% of properties in this part of Cape Breton Municipality were built following the year 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1960s. This community offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. About two thirds of the properties in the community are occupied by homeowners and renters occupy the remainder.
