McAllister

Part of the Greater Saint John metropolitan area, McAllister is a neighbourhood within Saint John, New Brunswick.

Transportation

Driving is an excellent medium of transportation in this area. It is very convenient to park, and nearby highways are reasonably easy to access from any home in McAllister. However, this part of Saint John is not very transit friendly. Nevertheless, there are a few bus lines traversing the neighbourhood, and it is very easy to reach a nearby bus stop from most residences. Travelling on foot is not especially practical for property owners in McAllister as meeting day-to-day needs is at times difficult by walking. The bicycle is a sometimes poor means of transportation in McAllister because riding is rendered strenuous by the often hilly terrain, and there are few bike lanes.

Services

Daycares are convenient to access on foot from anywhere in this part of Saint John. However, McAllister does not contain any primary schools or high schools. With respect to food, some, but not all, property owners in this part of Saint John will reside within walking distance of the closest grocery store. A small variety of restaurants and cafes is available as well.

Character

Home buyers who prefer a slower-paced atmosphere will enjoy McAllister. McAllister is very quiet overall, as the streets are generally very tranquil. Public green spaces aren't well-situated, resulting in them being sometimes hard to reach from a lot of locations in the neighbourhood. Still, residents will be able to access parks in nearby neighbourhoods.

Housing

McAllister experienced its most significant construction boom in the 1960s and 1970s, so most of the available properties are from this time period. In this area, roughly 40% of buildings are small apartment buildings, but mobile homes and townhouses are also present in the housing stock. There are equal parts owners and renters living in this neighbourhood. Notably, this neighbourhood is good for those looking for two bedroom homes.
