Chinatown

Part of the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area, Chinatown is a neighbourhood within Vancouver, British Columbia.

Transportation

Chinatown is an excellent area when it comes to getting around without driving. This area is an extraordinarily pleasant part of Vancouver for pedestrians; carrying out day-to-day needs is very easy, and numerous businesses are very nearby. Chinatown will also appeal to active people because it is especially suited for cycling. In particular, there is always a bike-share station in proximity, and Chinatown features an excellent bicycling infrastructure. This part of the city is especially transit friendly. For instance, It is very convenient to reach a nearby rapid transit station, such as Main Street-Science World Station @ Platform 2 and Main Street-Science World Station @ Platform 1 on the Expo Line, from the bulk of properties in the neighbourhood. There are approximately 20 bus lines crossing the neighbourhood, and most residences are very close to a bus stop. In contrast, driving is a fairly poor transportation option in Chinatown since coming across a parking spot is not very easy, and very little of the street network is well suited for cars.

Services

It is especially easy to get to both a general and a specialty grocery store by walking from most houses for sale in Chinatown. Moreover, thanks to around 40 restaurants and a few cafes, Chinatown is an excellent place in which to eat out, for example on Abbott Street. When it comes to education, both primary and secondary schools are very easy to walk to from most houses for sale in this part of Vancouver. In contrast, there are only a limited number of daycares and therefore they can be a long walk away.

Character

Chinatown is a great neighbourhood for home buyers who enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities. Finding vibrant streets in this area is very easy. There are often masses of people around, there are numerous nearby entertainment venues, and places to go out at night are well-spread throughout the neighbourhood. Green spaces are very easy to access since there are a few of them close by for residents to unwind in.

Housing

In Chinatown, around 90% of dwellings are large apartment buildings, but small apartment buildings are also present in the housing stock. Most of the housing growth in this part of the city has taken place after the year 2000. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of two bedroom and one bedroom homes. Renters occupy about 60% of the units in Chinatown while owners occupy the remainder.
