Carey

Located within the Greater Victoria metropolitan area, Carey is a neighbourhood in Saanich, British Columbia.

Transportation

Cars are a great transportation option in this part of Saanich. Finding a parking spot is generally easy, and nearby highways, such as Trans-Canada Highway, are very easy to reach from any home in this neighbourhood. However, travelling by transit can be difficult in Carey by reason of the infrequent service. Thankfully, there are approximately 20 bus lines, and bus stops are usually nearby. Travelling by foot is not very common in this neighbourhood, despite the fact that many daily errands can be run without needing to resort to a car. In contrast, riding a bike is adopted in this part of the municipality because the bicycling infrastructure is quite extensive.

Services

In this part of the municipality, families will generally be able to access schools and daycares by walking. In addition to public schools, there are private elementary and high schools. With respect to eating, it is convenient to access the closest grocery store on foot in this area. Residents of this part of the municipality benefit from a few restaurants as well.

Character

The character of Carey is exemplified by its relaxed atmosphere. It is very easy to access public green spaces in the neighbourhood since there are over 50 of them close by for residents to explore. This part of Saanich is also very good for those who need a quiet atmosphere, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour.

Housing

In Carey, roughly half of buildings are single detached homes, while duplexes make up most of the remaining housing stock. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy about three quarters of the units in the neighbourhood and one quarter are occupied by renters. Around 30% of homes in this part of the municipality were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s.
