Downtown

The neighbourhood of Downtown Edmonton is part of the city of Edmonton, Alberta, which is located in the Greater Edmonton metropolitan area.

Transportation

Regardless of the mode of transportation, it is quite convenient to move around in Downtown. The great public transit infrastructure makes transit a viable option for many people by reason of a multitude of nearby rapid transit stations with access to the Metro Line and Capital Line, and around 20 nearby bus lines. This part of the city is also very suitable for walking; all common errands can be run without the use of a vehicle, and numerous businesses are reasonably nearby. Downtown will appeal to active home buyers because it is suited for bicycling. More specifically, there are few hills in much of the terrain to challenge cyclists, and this part of the city boasts a very good bicycling infrastructure.

Services

In this part of the city, families will almost always be able to reach schools and daycares by walking. Regarding eating, it is usually possible for property owners in this neighbourhood to buy general and specialty groceries on foot. Moreover, there are a good number of opportunities for those who care about nearby restaurants and cafes.

Character

Downtown has a character that appeals to a fairly diverse group of people. Downtown is reasonably good for those who prefer a quiet atmosphere, as noise from the streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue. Parks are very well-distributed and there are approximately 10 of them close by for residents to visit, which makes them very easy to get to. Lastly, there are many things to do in this part of Edmonton for those looking for a dynamic vibe. Even though there is a limited selection of entertainment venues, the streets are very often busy with people, and places to go out at night are well-spread throughout the neighbourhood.

Housing

The predominance of large apartment buildings in the housing stock of Downtown is an important part of its character. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of two bedroom and one bedroom homes. About three quarters of the properties in the neighbourhood are occupied by renters and one quarter are occupied by owners. The buildings in this part of the city are relatively new, since roughly 40% of its dwellings were built after the year 2000, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1960s.
