Situated within the Greater Edmonton metropolitan area, Downtown Edmonton is a neighbourhood within Edmonton, Alberta.

Transportation

Downtown provides property owners with the choice between different modes of transportation. Commuting by public transit is very easy in this part of Edmonton thanks to plenty of nearby rapid transit stations with access to the Metro Line and Capital Line, and around 20 nearby bus lines. Downtown is also very conducive to walking; all common errands can be run on foot, and plenty of businesses are nearby. This area will attract active people since it is suited for biking. In particular, there are numerous bike lanes, and much of the topography is relatively flat.

Services

A general and a specialty grocery store is always only a short walk away in Downtown. Likewise, there is typically a restaurant or cafe in close proximity. Concerning education, schools and daycares are especially easy to walk to from most houses for sale in Downtown.

Character

Downtown is a "jack-of-all-trades" when it comes to the feel of this neighbourhood. Downtown is good for those who prefer quiet surroundings, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic. There are about 10 parks nearby for residents to discover and they are very well-situated, making them very easy to get to from a large number of locations in Downtown. Lastly, there are numerous things to do in this neighbourhood to explore. Even though there is a limited selection of entertainment venues, there are usually a large number of people around, and places to go out at night are well-distributed throughout the area.

Housing

The homes in this area are quite new, because around 40% of its dwellings were constructed following the year 2000, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1960s. The substantial percentage of large apartment buildings in the housing stock of this area is an important part of its character. Renters occupy roughly three quarters of the dwellings in Downtown and one quarter are occupied by owners. This part of the city is primarily composed of two bedroom and one bedroom homes.
