Valois

The neighbourhood of Valois can be found in the city of Pointe-Claire, Quebec, which is located in the Greater Montreal metropolitan area.

Transportation

Valois is an extraordinarily good part of Pointe-Claire for travelling by car. The majority of real estate listings are a very short car ride from the closest highway, such as Autoroute du Souvenir, and it is easy to find a place to park. On the other hand, the public transit service in Valois is not particularly frequent. Nevertheless, it is easy to find a nearby train station, including the Gare Valois on the 11 - Vaudreuil/Hudson, from the bulk of houses in the neighbourhood. The neighbourhood is served by a few bus lines, and the nearest bus stop is typically just around the corner. Despite the fact that the topography is reasonably flat, this part of the city is not particularly appropriate for bicycling because there are a limited number of bike lanes. Travelling on foot is also not very convenient for residents in Valois since common amenities such as hardware stores or post offices can be an occasionally long walk away.

Services

Primary schools are easy to reach on foot from anywhere in this neighbourhood. In contrast, there are only a limited number of high schools and consequently they can be a rather long walk away. In terms of eating, home buyers in this area almost always need a car to do their grocery shopping. Nonetheless, pharmacies are typically straightforward to access on foot and sell some staple foods. There are also a few choices for those who care about restaurants within walking distance.

Character

Valois is a good neighbourhood to buy a home in for those who prefer a slower-paced environment. This part of Pointe-Claire is good for those who need a quiet atmosphere, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic - although there are still several noisier sections, especially near Autoroute du Souvenir or one of the railway lines. Lastly, this neighbourhood also features a fair amount of greenery as there are numerous tree-lined streets. There are a few public green spaces close by for residents to discover, such as Parc Venture and Parc Valois, and they are especially well-spread out, making them easy to reach.

Housing

Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing about half of dwellings in Valois, whereas the rest are mainly large apartment buildings. Roughly 45% of properties in this area were built before the 1960s, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s. This area also has a good choice of unit sizes; houses range from lofts to four or more bedrooms. Roughly three quarters of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and one quarter are renters.
