Part of the Greater Oshawa metropolitan area, Brooklin is a neighbourhood within Whitby, Ontario.

Transportation

Brooklin is an extraordinarily good part of Whitby for moving around by car. It is a rather short drive to the nearest highway from anywhere in this neighbourhood, and it is convenient to park. In contrast, Brooklin is not an especially convenient part of Whitby for moving around by public transit. Nonetheless, there are a few bus lines, and most properties are very close to a bus stop. Walking is not very feasible for home buyers in Brooklin since meeting day-to-day needs is sometimes challenging on foot. It is also difficult to get around by bike in this neighbourhood because there are a good number of elevation changes, and the bicycling infrastructure is not very comprehensive.

Services

In Brooklin, families will almost always be able to get to primary schools and daycares by walking. On the other hand, it can be difficult to access high schools on foot. At the primary level, both public and private schools can be found. With respect to eating, it is very rarely an option for property owners in this neighbourhood to travel to the closest supermarket by walking. Nevertheless, pharmacies are typically convenient to access on foot and supply some staple foods. A limited variety of restaurants and cafes is available as well.

Character

Brooklin is a wonderful neighbourhood to buy a home in for those who prefer a slower-paced atmosphere. Brooklin is especially quiet, as noise from streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue.

Housing

In Brooklin, the vast majority of buildings are single detached homes, and the rest of the dwellings are mainly small apartment buildings. This neighbourhood experienced its biggest building boom following the year 2000, so most of the available housing stock is from this era. There is a higher proportion of four or more bedroom homes in this area. Homeowners occupy nearly 95% of the dwellings in the neighbourhood and 5% are rented.
