Central is a neighbourhood within Waterloo, Ontario, which is located in the Kitchener - Cambridge - Waterloo metropolitan area.

Transportation

Central will please property owners that use a diversity of methods of transportation. This neighbourhood is quite transit friendly. Rapid transit stations, such as Laurier-Waterloo Park Station, Willis Way Station and Allen Station with access to the ION Light Rail, are not very far from the greater part of residences in the neighbourhood. The neighbourhood is connected by about 10 bus lines, and most houses are very close to a bus stop. Central is also a fairly convenient part of Waterloo for pedestrians; carrying out daily needs is easy by walking, and a fair number of businesses of different types can be found as well. Active people will value the bicycling-friendly character of Central. For example, Central features a reasonably good cycling infrastructure.

Services

Both general and specialty grocery stores are typically accessible within a short walk from any home in this neighbourhood. In addition, there is often a restaurant or cafe just around the corner. Concerning education, it is a short walk to get to daycares and schools from anywhere in this part of the city. Residents have the choice between public and private secondary schools.

Character

The character of Central is exemplified by its slower-paced environment. It is easy to reach green spaces in the neighbourhood since there are a few of them close by for residents to explore. This part of Waterloo is reasonably quiet overall, as the streets are usually quite calm - although there are still several louder areas, especially around the railway line.

Housing

About half of dwellings are large apartment buildings, making it easy to find apartments in Central, whereas the rest are mainly small apartment buildings and single detached homes. This area offers mainly one bedroom and two bedroom homes. About two thirds of the properties in the neighbourhood are occupied by renters whereas the rest are occupied by owners. About 40% of properties in this area were built after the year 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1960s.
