Dunbarton

The neighbourhood of Dunbarton can be found in the city of Pickering, Ontario, which is situated in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.

Transportation

The favoured transportation option in this area is usually a car. Nearby highways, such as Highway 401, are reasonably easy to access from any location in this part of Pickering, and it is very convenient to find a parking spot. However, commuting by public transit is difficult in Dunbarton. Thankfully, there are a few bus lines passing through the neighbourhood, and bus stops are not very far-removed from most houses. This part of Pickering is not particularly convenient for walking because few daily needs can be carried out without having to use a vehicle. Even though cycling is more practical in certain sectors than others, the bicycle is a somewhat poor mode of transportation in Dunbarton as the topography is not particularly flat, and the cycling network is not very comprehensive.

Services

The closest grocery store in this area is typically only a reasonably short walk away. Concerning education, primary schools and daycares are easy to reach on foot from anywhere in this area. However, there are no high schools in Dunbarton.

Character

The character of Dunbarton is exemplified by its slower-paced environment. This part of the city is very quiet overall, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic close to Highway 401 or the railway line. Lastly, although Dunbarton does not contain any parks, public green spaces are sparse in nearby neighbourhoods, which results in them being easy to access from most locations in Dunbarton.

Housing

In Dunbarton, the vast majority of dwellings are single detached homes, but duplexes are also present in the housing stock. Around 30% of properties in this neighbourhood were constructed in the 1980s, while many of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s and the 1990s. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Roughly 90% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home whereas renters make up the remainder.
