Rural

Part of the Greater Hamilton metropolitan area, Rural is a neighbourhood within Burlington, Ontario.

Transportation

Cars are a great transportation option in Rural. It is especially convenient to come across a parking spot, and many real estate listings are a short drive from the nearest highway, such as Highway 407. On the other hand, getting around by transit can be challenging in Rural due to the low service level. Nevertheless, the neighbourhood is served by a few bus lines, and most properties are very close to a bus stop. This part of Burlington is not very bike-friendly because there is a considerable amount of elevation changes, and the bicycling infrastructure is quite bad. It is also impractical for people travelling on foot to move around in Rural as running daily errands is occasionally challenging.

Services

In all but a very small number of cases, a car is needed in Rural to access the nearest grocery store. Nonetheless, getting to the closest pharmacy and therefore some basic food items is usually convenient. A small variety of restaurants is available in Rural as well. When it comes to education, families may find it difficult for their children to access high schools and primary schools as pedestrians. At the elementary level, both public and private schools can be found. Moreover, daycares are not numerous and thus not always within walking distance.

Character

There is a reasonably good selection of green spaces in Rural. Accessing parks is easy from the majority of locations in the neighbourhood, since getting to one from numerous homes is sometimes hard and there are a few public green spaces close by for residents to discover. This area is relatively quiet, thanks to the presence of very few people out and about on the streets.

Housing

The sizeable proportion of single detached homes in the housing stock of Rural is an important part of its character. This part of Burlington is primarily composed of three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy nearly 90% of the units in Rural and the rest are rented. Roughly 45% of homes in this neighbourhood were constructed between 1960 and 1980, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s.
