Upper Tantallon

Part of the Greater Halifax metropolitan area, Upper Tantallon is a community within Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

Travelling by car is very easy in this community. The majority of properties for sale are a rather short drive from the closest highway, and it is very easy to park. Upper Tantallon is not very suitable for those who travel by foot because very few common errands can be run without having to use a car. However, this community is quite cycling-friendly.

Services

Some, but not all, property owners in Upper Tantallon will reside within walking distance of the nearest supermarket. A limited number of restaurants and cafes are available as well. As far as education is concerned, high schools and primary schools are not abundant in Upper Tantallon, and consequently tend to be a very long walk away. Likewise, it can be challenging to reach daycares as a pedestrian.

Character

Upper Tantallon is an excellent community to buy a house in for those who prefer a calm ambience. This part of Halifax is very quiet, as there are low levels of noise from traffic. Lastly, it is easy to get to public green spaces in the community, since there are around 10 of them close by for residents to relax in and the majority of properties have a park very close by.

Housing

Single detached homes are the most common housing type, representing the overwhelming majority of buildings in Upper Tantallon, and the remaining dwellings are mainly duplexes. This part of the municipality is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Roughly 95% of the population of this community own their home and 5% are renters. This part of Halifax experienced its largest building boom after the year 2000, so most of the available housing stock is from this era.
