Lake Charles

The neighbourhood of Lake Charles is part of the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is located in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

Lake Charles is especially car friendly. Parking is generally easy, and the majority of real estate listings are a short car ride from the closest highway. On the other hand, Lake Charles is not an especially convenient part of Halifax for getting around by public transit. Nonetheless, there are a few bus lines passing through the neighbourhood, and bus stops are not very far away from most houses. This neighbourhood is not especially appropriate for bicycling since there is a considerable amount of hills, and there are few bike lanes. Nonetheless, riding a bike is popular. Travelling on foot is also not very feasible for residents in Lake Charles as running common errands is very difficult on foot.

Services

This area does not have any high schools or primary schools. Furthermore, it can be very hard to get to daycares on foot. Concerning food, property owners in Lake Charles almost always have to rely on a car to travel to the nearest supermarket.

The character of Lake Charles is exemplified by its relaxed ambience. This neighbourhood is very quiet, as there are low levels of noise from traffic. Finally, parks are especially well-spread out and there are a few of them close by for residents to relax in, resulting in them being easy to reach from most locations in Lake Charles.

Nearly 95% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and renters make up the remainder. The large percentage of single detached homes in the housing stock of this part of the municipality is an important part of its character. About one quarter of properties in this neighbourhood were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This part of Halifax offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes.
