Eastern Passage

Eastern Passage is a community within Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is situated in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

Eastern Passage is very car friendly. Parking is easy. In contrast, the public transit network in this part of Halifax is not very accessible. Nevertheless, there are a few bus lines crossing the community, and bus stops are not very far from most residences. Most homes for sale in this part of the municipality are located in places that are not very suitable for walking because running daily errands is impractical. Eastern Passage is also not very appropriate for biking because cyclists are faced with a considerable amount of hills, and there are few bike lanes.

Services

A fraction of property owners in this part of Halifax may have the option to do groceries by walking, while others will need another means of transportation. A small variety of restaurants and coffee shops can be found as well. As far as education is concerned, it is a rather short walk to access both primary and secondary schools from anywhere in Eastern Passage.

Character

The character of Eastern Passage is exemplified by its calm environment. This part of the municipality is very quiet overall, as there are low levels of noise from traffic. Finally, it is easy to reach green spaces in the community, since there are about 10 of them nearby for residents to visit and getting to the closest park is very easy from the majority of houses.

Housing

About one third of properties in Eastern Passage were built after the year 2000, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s. The housing stock of this part of the municipality is composed predominantly of single detached homes and row houses. Around 85% of the population of this community own their home whereas renters make up the remainder. This area is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes.
