Sydney

Part of the Cape Breton metropolitan area, Sydney is a former city within Cape Breton Municipality, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

The car is often the favoured approach to get around in Sydney. It is straightforward to park, and nearby highways are quite easy to reach from any home in Sydney. This part of the municipality is not especially convenient for those who travel by foot because few day-to-day needs can be met without having to use a vehicle. This former city is also not particularly amenable to cycling as cyclists encounter quite a few elevation changes, and the bicycling network is not very extensive.

Services

Property owners in this part of the municipality will value that a grocery store is always only a reasonably short walk away. A limited selection of restaurants and coffee shops can be found as well. Concerning education, families will appreciate that no matter where their property is situated in Sydney, schools and daycares are nearby.

Character

Sydney is a wonderful former city to buy a home in for those who prefer a calm environment. Parks, such as Bi-Centennial Field and Baille A'rd, are very well-spread out and there are over 50 of them close by for residents to relax in, which makes it easy to access them from the majority of locations in this area. This former city is also very quiet, as the streets are generally especially calm.

Housing

Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing around 60% of dwellings in Sydney, and the remaining properties are mainly small apartment buildings. This former city also has a good choice of unit sizes; it is quite easy to find houses ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. The population residing in this area is evenly split between owners and renters. Around half of properties in this former city were constructed before the 1960s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s.
