Reserve Mines

Situated within the Cape Breton metropolitan area, Reserve Mines is a community within Cape Breton Municipality, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

Reserve Mines is very car friendly. Coming across a place to park is easy. Reserve Mines is not very conducive to walking because running daily errands is inconvenient on foot. Cycling is also difficult in this community as the cycling infrastructure is not very extensive, and the topography is not particularly flat.

Services

A vehicle is almost always needed in Reserve Mines to reach the nearest grocery store. On the other hand, residents won't have to go far to take advantage of the closest cafe, and a limited selection of restaurants can be found in this community. With regards to education, families will value that wherever their property is situated in this area, primary schools are close by. However, Reserve Mines does not have any high schools.

Character

People who prefer a relaxed environment will enjoy Reserve Mines. This area is very quiet overall, as there are low levels of noise from traffic - although that is not the case closer to the airport (Sydney/J.A. Douglas McCurdy Airport). Finally, most locations in the community have good access to parks, such as Reserve Mines Legacy Park, since there are a few of them close by for residents to explore and most properties for sale have a park nearby.

Housing

The predominance of single detached homes in the housing stock of Reserve Mines is an important part of its character. About one third of properties in this community were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 1980s. This part of Cape Breton Municipality is primarily composed of two bedroom and three bedroom homes. Around three quarters of the properties in the community are occupied by homeowners and the remainder are rented.
