Islandview

Part of the Cape Breton metropolitan area, Islandview is a community within Cape Breton Municipality, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

Cars are an excellent medium of transportation in Islandview. Parking is quite easy. This area is not very well-suited for walking because many daily needs are almost impossible to carry out without the use of a car. It is also very hard to move around by bike in Islandview because the cycling infrastructure is not very extensive, and bike riders are faced with a considerable amount of hills.

Services

There are no high schools and no primary schools in this community. In addition, there are only a very small number of daycares and thus they can be a very long walk away. As far as food is concerned, it is very rarely an option for home buyers in this area to travel to the closest grocery store on foot.

Character

The character of Islandview is exemplified by its slower-paced ambience. Although this area is not home to any parks, public green spaces are few and far between in nearby communities, which makes it very easy to reach them from most locations in the community. This area is very quiet overall, as noise from the streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue.

Housing

The large percentage of single detached homes in the housing stock of Islandview is an important part of its character. This part of the municipality is primarily composed of two bedroom and three bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy about 90% of the units in the community and the remainder are rented. Around 30% of properties in this part of Cape Breton Municipality were built between 1960 and 1980, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1980s and the 1990s.
