Part of the Cape Breton metropolitan area, Big Ridge is a community within Cape Breton Municipality, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

This community is very car friendly. It is very easy to come across a parking spot. This area is not very well-suited for walking because many daily needs are practically impossible to carry out on foot. The bike is a quite poor method of transportation in Big Ridge as there are a fair number of elevation changes, and the bicycling infrastructure is not very comprehensive.

Services

It is very rarely possible for property owners in Big Ridge to buy their groceries on foot. Concerning education, there are no high schools and no primary schools in this area. Likewise, daycares are not plentiful and therefore not always within walking distance.

Character

The character of Big Ridge is exemplified by its slower-paced ambience. Most areas in this part of the municipality are very quiet, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic. Lastly, although Big Ridge does not contain any parks, public green spaces are sparse in nearby communities, resulting in them being easy to access from most locations within the community.
