Part of the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area, Altamont is a neighbourhood within West Vancouver, British Columbia.

Transportation

Driving is an excellent mode of transportation in Altamont. Parking is generally easy, and many homes for sale are a rather short car ride from the closest highway, such as Trans-Canada Highway. However, the public transit service in Altamont is not very frequent. Nonetheless, house owners benefit from a few bus lines, and it is very convenient to find a nearby bus stop from most homes. Cycling is challenging in Altamont as there are few bike lanes, and there are quite a few elevation changes. A majority of the houses for sale in this area are located in places that are also not very suitable for walking as very few day-to-day errands can be run on foot.

Services

Parents and their kids will welcome that wherever their house is located in Altamont, daycares and primary schools are close by. In contrast, there are no high schools in this area. Regarding eating, in all but a very small number of cases, a car is required to buy groceries.

Character

The character of Altamont is exemplified by its relaxed atmosphere. This part of the municipality is fairly good for those who like quiet surroundings, as there are low levels of noise from traffic - however some areas can be quite noisy, especially around Trans-Canada Highway or the railway line. Finally, parks are very well-situated and there are approximately 10 of them close by for residents to visit, resulting in them being very easy to get to from the majority of locations in this neighbourhood.

Housing

About 85% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and 15% are renters. In this part of the municipality, around 80% of dwellings are single detached homes, but duplexes are also present in the housing stock. Roughly one third of properties in this neighbourhood were built before the 1960s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1990s. This part of West Vancouver is particularly good for those looking for four or more bedroom homes.
