Strathcona

The neighbourhood of Strathcona is part of the city of Vancouver, British Columbia, which is located in the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area.

Transportation

Home buyers in Strathcona are provided with various options to move around without using a car. The great public transit infrastructure makes transit a viable option for many people as a consequence of a multitude of nearby rapid transit stations on the Expo Line and Millennium Line, and about 20 nearby bus lines. Strathcona is also an extremely pleasant part of Vancouver for pedestrians; most daily needs can be carried out without having to resort to a vehicle, and various businesses are very nearby. Strathcona will draw physically active home buyers since it is very suitable for biking. More specifically, the bicycling infrastructure is quite extensive, and a bike share station can generally be found nearby.

Services

Families will value the short distance from both primary and secondary schools, which are within walking distance from most, if not all, homes for sale in this part of the city. Residents benefit from public and private primary schools. In contrast, daycares are not very numerous and thus not always within walking distance. As far as eating is concerned, it is very easy to get to both a general and a specialty grocery store by walking from any location in Strathcona. Georgia Street is among the best streets for food stores. In addition, this neighbourhood is a good place in which to eat out or go to a cafe.

Character

Those who enjoy a vibrant atmosphere and spending time in green spaces will feel at home in Strathcona. This part of the city has a large number of places to visit. There are crowds of people around most of the time, there is a vast selection of entertainment venues, and finding one of the a few bars is very easy as they are generally located very close by. Powell Street in particular offers a broad selection of nightlife. There are around 10 green spaces nearby for residents to check out, such as Strathcona Park, and they are especially well-spread out, which results in them being very easy to get to from the majority of locations within the neighbourhood.

Housing

In Strathcona, about 40% of buildings are small apartment buildings, whereas the remainder are mainly large apartment buildings. This area also has a good variety of housing sizes - it is quite easy to find homes ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. Roughly three quarters of the population of this neighbourhood rent their home whereas owners make up the remainder. Around one quarter of homes in this area were constructed pre-1960, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s.
