Located within the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area, Downtown Eastside is a neighbourhood within Vancouver, British Columbia.

Transportation

Downtown Eastside is an excellent part of Vancouver for environmentally friendly transportation options. It is especially convenient for pedestrians to navigate Downtown Eastside; carrying out daily needs is very easy by walking, and various businesses are very nearby. Countless residents in the area use their bike as a bike share station can always be found in close proximity, and the cycling infrastructure is reasonably extensive. Owing to approximately 10 nearby bus lines, this area is very transit friendly. On the other hand, this part of the city is not an especially good part of Vancouver for getting around by car as it is difficult to come across a parking spot, and many real estate listings are a very long drive from the closest highway.

Services

It is very easy to access both a general and a specialty grocery store by walking from anywhere in Downtown Eastside. In addition, those who enjoy dining out won't have to go far in this area, where approximately 20 restaurants and a few cafes can be found, for example along Powell Street. Concerning education, both primary and secondary schools are convenient to reach on foot from most houses for sale in Downtown Eastside. In contrast, families may find it very hard for their children to reach daycares on foot.

Those who enjoy a vibrant atmosphere and spending time outdoors will feel at home in Downtown Eastside. This area has a large number of places for those looking for a dynamic vibe. There are masses of people around most of the time, there is a fairly good selection of entertainment venues, and with the bars in nearby neighbourhoods, it is very easy to find a place to grab a drink as they are generally located very close by. There are a few parks close by for residents to discover and they are especially well-spread out, making it easy to get to them.

Housing

About half of buildings are large apartment buildings, making it easy to find apartments in Downtown Eastside, while small apartment buildings are also present in the housing stock. This area also has a selection of unit sizes; notably, this part of Vancouver is good for those looking for one bedroom homes. Roughly 85% of the population of this neighbourhood rent their home while the rest are owners. About one quarter of properties in this part of Vancouver were constructed following the year 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1960s.
