Downtown

Downtown New Westminster is a neighbourhood within New Westminster, British Columbia, which is located in the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area.

Transportation

This part of the city will attract property owners that value several means of transportation. Downtown is very conducive to those who travel by foot; carrying out day-to-day needs is convenient by walking, and there are also a fair number of businesses in proximity. This area is also suited for cycling as the bicycling infrastructure is good. Downtown is a very pleasant part of New Westminster for travelling by public transit due to various nearby rapid transit stations on the Expo Line, and a few nearby bus lines. Cars are also a good medium of transportation in this area because parking isn't usually too difficult.

Services

Parents and their children will value the proximity to daycares and schools, which are within walking distance from all homes for sale in Downtown. Apart from public schools, there are private elementary and high schools. As far as food is concerned, the closest supermarket in Downtown is generally only a very short walk away. Additionally, there is often a restaurant or cafe in close proximity, for example along Carnarvon Street.

Character

Despite the somewhat busy feel, there are a lot of green spaces to enjoy in Downtown. Green spaces are easy to access since there are around 10 of them nearby for residents to visit. Many parts of Downtown is quite quiet, although that is not the case close to one of the railway lines.

Most dwellings are large apartment buildings, making it easy to find apartments in Downtown, whereas the rest are mainly small apartment buildings. This neighbourhood offers mainly one bedroom and two bedroom homes. The split between renters and homeowners is about even. Around 45% of homes in this neighbourhood were built following the year 2000, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s.
