Hammond Bay

Situated in the Greater Nanaimo metropolitan area, Hammond Bay is a neighbourhood within Nanaimo, British Columbia.

Transportation

Driving is usually the preferred approach to navigate Hammond Bay. It is very convenient to park. However, commuting by transit can be difficult in this part of the city as a result of the low service level. Nevertheless, the neighbourhood is connected by a few bus lines, and bus stops are ordinarily nearby. Travelling on foot is not very convenient for home buyers in this area as very few daily needs can be carried out without having to resort to a car. Hammond Bay is also not especially conducive to bicycling since there is a significant amount of slopes, and the cycling infrastructure is fairly poor.

Services

There are only a few primary schools in Hammond Bay and thus they can be a long walk away. Likewise, this part of Nanaimo does not contain any high schools. Furthermore, daycares are not very abundant and consequently not always within walking distance. With respect to food, in all but a very small number of cases, a vehicle is required to buy groceries. There are a few restaurants in Hammond Bay.

Character

The character of Hammond Bay is exemplified by its relaxed environment. This part of Nanaimo is very quiet, as there are generally low levels of noise from traffic. Finally, there are around 20 green spaces close by for residents to visit, including Linley Valley Cottle Lake Park and Planta Park, and they are very well-situated, which makes them easy to reach.

Housing

Around 80% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and 20% are renters. The substantial percentage of single detached homes in the housing stock of this part of Nanaimo is an important part of its character. Around 40% of homes in this neighbourhood were constructed after the year 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s and the 1980s. This area is primarily composed of three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes.
