Part of the Greater Nanaimo metropolitan area, Hammond Bay is a neighbourhood within Nanaimo, British Columbia.

Transportation

Commuting by car is very convenient in Hammond Bay. It is especially convenient to park. On the other hand, getting around by transit can be difficult in Hammond Bay as a result of the low service level. Nonetheless, residents have access to a few bus lines, and bus stops are usually nearby. Hammond Bay is not particularly cycling-friendly since there are few bike lanes, and cyclists are faced with a considerable amount of elevation changes. A majority of the houses for sale in this part of the city are located in places that are also not very suitable for those who travel by foot as very few day-to-day errands can be run without the use of a vehicle.

Services

There are only a few primary schools in this part of the city and consequently they can be a long walk away. Furthermore, this neighbourhood does not contain any high schools. Finally, green spaces, like Neck Point Park and Eagle View Park, are very well-situated and there are about 20 of them close by for residents to discover, which makes them easy to get to from a lot of locations in the neighbourhood.

About 80% of the properties in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and the remainder are rented. The predominance of single detached homes in the housing stock of this area is an important part of its character. Around 40% of homes in this neighbourhood were constructed after the year 2000, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s. This area offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes.
