Part of the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area, Douglas-Gilpin is a neighbourhood within Burnaby, British Columbia.

Transportation

This area offers property owners the choice between several methods of transportation. Douglas-Gilpin is very car friendly. It is convenient to park, and most real estate listings are a short drive from the nearest highway, such as Trans-Canada Highway. The public transit network in Douglas-Gilpin is also reasonably good. For example, the neighbourhood is served by a few bus lines, and most properties are very close to a bus stop. This area is quite bike-friendly. On the other hand, travelling by foot is not very popular in Douglas-Gilpin, even though running common errands is convenient by walking.

Services

Families will find that no matter where their home is located in Douglas-Gilpin, daycares and schools are close by. In addition to public schools, there are private primary and secondary schools. With respect to food, some, but not all, house buyers in Douglas-Gilpin will reside within walking distance of the closest grocery store. That being said, Douglas-Gilpin is a good place in which to go out to eat, and a limited selection of cafes is available.

Character

Douglas-Gilpin is a fairly good neighbourhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a slower-paced atmosphere. There are a few green spaces close by for residents to visit and they are very well-spread out, which makes them very easy to reach. This neighbourhood is also quiet, as the streets are generally quite peaceful - although that is not the case closer to Trans-Canada Highway.

Housing

In Douglas-Gilpin, about 30% of dwellings are single detached homes, while small apartment buildings, duplexes, and townhouses make up most of the remaining housing stock. This part of the city also has a good selection of unit sizes; it is quite easy to find houses ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. Around two thirds of the population of this neighbourhood own their home whereas renters make up the remainder. Roughly 45% of homes in this part of Burnaby were built between 1960 and 1980, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1980s.
