Chinatown

The neighbourhood of Chinatown can be found in the city of Montréal, Quebec, which is situated in the Greater Montreal metropolitan area.

Transportation

This area is a great neighbourhood for environmentally friendly transportation options. Chinatown is an extremely pleasant part of Montréal for pedestrians; many daily needs are especially convenient to carry out by walking, and there are also innumerable businesses in proximity. Cycling is quite embraced in this part of Montréal because the cycling network is very extensive, the topography is flat, and bike-share stations are never more than a short distance away. Owing to Place-d'Armes Station with access to the Ligne 2 - Orange, and about 10 nearby bus lines, the public transit service in Chinatown is great. On the other hand, this neighbourhood is not especially car friendly. Nevertheless, many houses for sale are a very short car ride from the closest highway.

Services

In Chinatown, parents and their children will generally be able to access secondary schools and daycares by walking. In contrast, there are no primary schools in Chinatown. Concerning food, property owners in this part of the city will value that a general and a specialty grocery store is always only a very short walk away. Moreover, thanks to approximately 30 restaurants and a few cafes, Chinatown is an excellent place in which to eat out.

Character

Chinatown is a great part of the city for those who enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities. There are a very large number of things to do in this part of Montréal for those looking for a dynamic vibe. There are masses of people around most of the time, there are a lot of nearby entertainment venues, and with the bars in nearby neighbourhoods, it is very easy to find a place to grab a drink since they are generally located very close by. Boulevard Saint-Laurent is among the most lively streets in this neighbourhood. The greenery in this part of Montréal is not very prominent; however, there are a few parks nearby for residents to unwind in and they are especially well-located, which makes them very easy to access.

Housing

About 85% of the population of this neighbourhood rent their home and 15% are owners. The sizeable proportion of large apartment buildings in the housing stock of this part of the city is an important part of its character. The homes in this neighbourhood are relatively new, since around 40% of its dwellings were constructed after the year 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s and the 1980s. This area is particularly good for those looking for one bedroom homes.
