Chinatown

Part of the Greater Montreal metropolitan area, Chinatown is a neighbourhood within Montréal, Quebec.

Transportation

This part of Montréal does not require driving because various other modes of transportation are available. Chinatown is especially convenient for those who travel by foot; most day-to-day needs are very easy to meet on foot, and a very large number of businesses of different types can be found as well. Chinatown will also attract physically active house buyers because it is quite suited for bicycling. More precisely, a bike share station is always located close by, the bicycling infrastructure is very extensive, and there are a limited number of slopes. With Place-d'Armes Station on the Ligne 2 - Orange, and about 10 nearby bus lines, the public transit service in Chinatown is excellent. On the other hand, driving is a somewhat poor transportation option in Chinatown. That being said, the majority of houses for sale are a very short drive from the nearest highway.

Services

It is very often an option for home buyers in this area to purchase general and specialty groceries on foot. Furthermore, there are about 30 restaurants and a few coffee shops to benefit from in this part of the city. In terms of education, families will value the proximity to daycares and high schools, which are within walking distance from most homes for sale in this neighbourhood. However, there are no primary schools in Chinatown.

Character

Chinatown is a great area for home buyers who enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities. This part of Montréal has a very large number of streets to explore. The streets are usually busy with people, there is an extensive selection of entertainment venues, and with the bars in nearby neighbourhoods, it is very easy to find a place to grab a drink because they are generally located around the corner. Those who like going out will enjoy the main streets, such as Boulevard Saint-Laurent, which will not disappoint. The greenery in this area is not very prominent; although, parks are especially well-spread out and there are a few of them nearby for residents to discover, making it very easy to get to them.

Housing

Large apartment buildings are the predominant housing type, representing about 90% of buildings in Chinatown, and the rest are mainly small apartment buildings. There is a higher proportion of one bedroom homes in this neighbourhood. Roughly 85% of the properties in the neighbourhood are occupied by renters whereas owners occupy the remainder. This neighbourhood did not experience a single building boom; the construction of new dwellings in Chinatown was spread throughout multiple decades in the twentieth and twenty-first century.
