This neighbourhood is an excellent area when it comes to travelling without driving. Père-Marquette is especially suitable for walking; all daily needs can be carried out on foot, and a fair number of businesses of different types can be found as well. This area is also an extraordinarily convenient part of Montréal for bike riders. For instance, riding is facilitated by the generally flat terrain, and the bicycling network is very good. Père-Marquette is very transit friendly as a consequence of Fabre Station with access to the Ligne 5 - Bleue, and around 10 nearby bus lines. However, getting around by car is occasionally difficult in Père-Marquette. Nonetheless, it is a rather short car ride to the nearest highway from anywhere in Père-Marquette.

Père-Marquette experienced its biggest building boom pre-1960, so most of the available properties are from this era. The substantial proportion of small apartment buildings in the housing stock of this neighbourhood is an important part of its character. Renters occupy roughly 70% of the units in Père-Marquette and 30% are occupied by owners. This part of the city is primarily composed of two bedroom and one bedroom homes.
